Buried in a box full of paintings. The signature was hard to make out, but research made it
clear: a wooded landscape by Frits Mondriaan — most likely the Haagse Bos, where he often
painted.
About the artist. Frederik Hendrik “Frits” Mondriaan (The Hague, 16 April 1853 –
Rijswijk, 16 December 1932) was an uncle of the famous painter Piet Mondriaan. He studied
under Willem Maris and painted mainly landscapes in the style of the Hague School. He made
regular visits to his brother, Pieter Cornelis, in Winterswijk, where he helped the young
Piet Mondriaan with his drawing studies.
